Several years ago I was looking for something fun to do and took a class from an amazing glass artist in Boulder…and fell in love. Many classes later, many cuttings and firings later (most successful, some not so successful), and I’m still in love. Some of my favorite pieces have been total mistakes, while some pieces that I carefully planned & measured & spent hours and hours working on are hiding in a closet. I never know what to expect. Maybe it is my inexperience, maybe it is the magic of glass.
Glass is neither a liquid or a solid. It’s an amorphous solid, somewhere between the two states of matter. I find that fascinating. I imagine to the scientific mind that’s just a basic fact but for me it adds to the magical sense of glass. Not one or the other, but somewhere in between.
